Malta Enterprise events reiterate commitment to startups

As part of its continuous efforts to sustain the local startup ecosystem, Malta Enterprise organised two events within the space of a few days with the aim of supporting new startups as well as youths interested in starting their own business.

Startup Café, which was organised for the second consecutive year within the framework of the Malta SME Week with the support of the Ministry for the Economy, Investment and Small Businesses and JAYE Malta, provided a space for newly established startups and youths to meet and network with mentors from different fields and backgrounds. Seasoned entrepreneurs shared their experiences in order to help participants further develop their business enterprising skills, while a keynote speech was delivered by Dr Christopher Haley, Head of New Technology & Startup Research at Nesta – an Innovation Foundation in the UK.

On the other hand, the first edition of Startup Express was focused on helping startups enhance their pitching and presentation skills with a view towards securing the funding they would need for their business. Besides various local and international entrepreneurs sharing their personal experience, the programme also comprised an intriguing presentation by Christoph Sollich, also known as The Pitch Doctor.

During both events, Malta Enterprise CEO Kurt Farrugia reiterated to the startup community the corporation's commitment to continue working to help those interested in setting up their own business.

Malta Enterprise has a number of schemes targeted towards assisting startups. Between 2015 and 2019, Malta Enterprise assisted 80 entrepreneurs through the B.Start scheme and allocated €2 million in cash grants.
