A well-attended meeting with over 60 stakeholders from the aviation industry and related services kick-started the Business Aviation Cluster Excellence initiative.
Driven by Malta Enterprise with the support of the Ministry for Tourism, Transport Malta and the Malta Business Aviation Association (MBAA), the initiative seeks to identify the opportunities and address the challenges within the business aviation industry.
Through the direct feedback received from industry, the initiative will also establish the actions that may be taken to stimulate innovation within the industry and raise its national and international visibility, thereby ensuring its sustainability and facilitating further growth.
The meeting brought together representatives of companies operating in the sectors forming the business aviation cluster, which among others included maintenance, repair and overhaul of aircraft (MRO), operations and ground handling, registration, ownership, technical documentation and AOC’s, R&D and training, as well as legal, financial and other related services.
Those present raised a number of issues, concerns, challenges and opportunities which should be addressed for the business aviation sector in Malta to become even more relevant economically.
The initiative forms part of a wider project on an EU level through which Malta Enterprise hopes to introduce the concept of clusters as a tool to develop certain sectors. The project on cluster excellence uses a methodology that is presently being used by some of Europe’s leading clusters active in a number of sectors and which can also be emulated successfully in Malta.
